ASSIST Carpenter

ASSIST Building & Maintenance Team.

Permanent Full Time.


In this role you will provide home modification and maintenance services to the frail aged; persons with a disability, and their carers across the Blue Mountains Local Government Area. Assist Building & Maintenance Services supports the frail-aged and people with a disability to remain safely in their home environment for as long as possible.


This is a permanent full time position. The position is paid in accordance with the Building & Construction General Onsite Award 2010 Level 3 (CW/ECW3). Belong BM staff have access to Salary and Meal & Entertainment packaging.


Position Summary


The role of the Carpenter is to enable frail aged persons and persons with a disability to remain safely in their home environments. The position involves:

  • Carrying out all required minor and some major modification and maintenance works for individuals, and allocated for action by the Building Services Manager, to the required industry standard

  • Maintaining all required work related job records as per service policy and procedure

  • Adherence to all Belong Blue Mountains (Belong BM) and Assist codes of conduct, organisational and service specific policies and procedures

  • Supervising other external trades staff involved in individual jobs

  • Engaging in all required and identified training and education


The position is based at the Belong BM main site at 81-83 Katoomba Street, Katoomba and provides coverage across the Blue Mountains Local Government Area (Lapstone – Mt Victoria, including Mt Wilson and Mt Irvine).  The service is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health, Community Home Support Program (CHSP).


Selection Criteria


Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • Trade certificate in carpentry or a related field with the relevant trade licence, as appropriate

  • Maintenance and modification experience in domestic industry/environments

  • Demonstrated ability in all aspects of carpentry trade

  • Demonstrated skill and ability in reading and preparing work drawings

  • Demonstrated work experience in preparing estimates and costs

  • Basic computer skills

  • Proven track record in planning and maintaining basic records

  • Demonstrated communication, negotiation and liaison skills

  • Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously and as part of a team

  • Demonstrated capacity to work as directed by management

  • Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity towards the frail aged, people with disabilities and their carers

  • Current driver's licence

 

Desireable Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • Asbestos removal

  • Tiling skills

  • Current construction Induction Certificate (Green/Blue Card)

  • Current safe asbestos sheet handling certificate

  • Awareness of Australian Access Standards

  • Basic welding experience

  • Demonstrated experience in bathroom renovations desirable
